Your child must be 4 years old on or before September 1 to be eligible for our PreK program and 5 years old on or before September 1 to be eligible for kindergarten.

Is there a cost associated with your PreK program?
No, there is no cost or registration fee associated with our PreK program. However, there may be some school supplies and snacks that you will be asked to provide.

Does your program ever fill up? Is there a deadline for registration?
No, School District of Onalaska residents will always have a spot in our PreK program. Some sections and sites do fill up sooner than others, and placement is made on a first come first served basis.

What class times are offered for 4K? How many days per week?
Our PreK program runs Monday through Thursday. There is a morning and afternoon session offered at all three of our elementary schools. The morning session will be 8:00 am to 11:10 am and the afternoon session will be 12:10 pm to 3:20 pm.

Do I have a choice in the session I’d like to have my child attend?
We do our best to accommodate all requests, however the sessions are on a first come first served basis. When students use our bus service, we will place them in the site and section that is most efficient for the bus schedule.

When does enrollment start for next year?
Enrollment for the School District of Onalaska residents begins in March for the following school year. If you are not a resident and are applying for Open Enrollment, you must wait until you receive notification that your application has been approved in June.

Other than the enrollment forms, what else do I need to provide in order to register my PreK student?
1. Verification of Residency form along with proof of residency, which may be one of the following items;
- Lease/rental agreement
- HUD-1 settlement statement, deed, escrow paperwork
- Driver's license/state issued photo ID with your current residence
address
- Utility bill (gas/electric, cable/internet, or property tax bill)
2. Immunization records
3. Birth certificate along with the Birth Certificate Verification Form (included in the enrollment packet)

Do I have to be a resident of Onalaska in order for my child to attend your PreK program?
Yes, only School District of Onalaska residents are able to enroll their child(ren) in our district.
The only exception to the residency rule is to apply and be approved for Open Enrollment through the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.

How can I find out if I live in the Onalaska School District and which elementary school my child will attend?
You may check our district boundary map to find out which elementary school district you live in. If you are unsure whether your home is within district boundaries you may look up your address on the La Crosse County Land Records website. Feel free to call or email us if you are not able to locate your home on the district boundary map.

Where are your PreK programs offered?
We offer PreK programs at all three of our elementary schools; Irving Pertzsch, Northern Hills and Eagle Bluff/Onalaska Kindergarten Center.
We also have community partner sites that offer our 4K program;YMCA North, Northstar Early Learning Center, Children’s Treehouse, Christian Chapel, First Lutheran, Children's Palace, and Gentle Lambs. Please contact them directly for openings and questions on their enrollment process.

Do you provide transportation for 4K students?
We do offer transportation service for our Pre-K program that is able to meet most needs. Please visit http://www.onalaska.k12.wi.us/district/transportation.cfm to complete the bussing agreement. Your need for bus transportation may determine the location and session (morning or afternoon) that your child attends.
