The School District of Onalaska has eight buildings (five academic and three administrative), with 1400 computers (70% Macintosh, 30% PC) and 200 iPads. Our district has standardized on Macintosh OS X and Windows XP / Windows 7 as the two workstation OS throughout the district. We use both Apple's Xserve technology (open directory) and Active Directory (through VMWare) for our district's network directory structure.
The School District of Onalaska has 25 labs which includes six wireless laptop carts. These carts are located at Onalaska High School, Onalaska Middle School, Northern Hills Elementary and Irving Pertzsch Elementary. We use a combination of server products: Windows 2003, Windows 2008 R2, Macintosh OS X and Linux solutions to run the district network infrastructure.
The School District of Onalaska supports open source software and solutions. These low (or no cost) software solutions assists us to stretch the technology dollars for the maximum effect. These solutions offer the maximum value for a minimum cost, and are used in the classroom as well as our data closets.
