Changes to Policies and Procedures

June 23, 2016

Dear School District of Onalaska Family:

There will be some changes to School District of Onalaska Transportation Policies and Procedures
that will increase safety and efficiency. These improvements will be in place for the beginning of the
2016-17 school year:

  1. Busing Agreements. All children riding School District of Onalaska buses will be required to
have a Busing Agreement on file. This form will be available after July 12, 2016 on the District
Website. This Agreement is required to qualify for ridership, and must be updated if there
are changes to your child’s transportation needs throughout the school year. This Agreement
will begin the process of determining eligibility for busing
For those families who do not have
Internet access, please ask for a printed copy of the form while attending your child’s school during Fall Registration. You may also contact the Transportation office for a paper
    Bus Agreement to complete.

  2. Bus Passes. All students will be required to present a bus pass on the first day they ride the bus.
This ensures that the student has been registered to ride, is boarding the correct bus, and will
allow us to gather bus census information. If your child qualifies for busing, passes will be sent
via email before the beginning of the school year with bus time and route information. The

exception to this rule is our Shuttle bus riders between the schools. If your child rides the bus
    without a pass
you will be required to complete a Busing Agreement to establish eligibility.

  3. Bus Stop Optimization. Our goal is to provide safe and efficient travel to and from school.
We continue to evaluate the best stops along all routes; please note there may be adjustments
to the stops that we used in the past.

  4. Online Routes. We will no longer publish bus route information on our website. Instead you will
receive route information before the school year. For new/changed busing during the school year we require three school days' notice for changes to go into effect. Please call the Transportation office at any time if you’re unsure about your child’s transportation.

Please visit the District’s Transportation website periodically for updates, bus rules and procedures,
and Busing Agreement.

If you have any concerns or questions please call Dan Dahlquist or Shelli Kult at 783-5489.

Sincerely,

Dan Dahlquist
Director of Buildings, Grounds, & Transportation

Ridership Elligibility

Please use these basic guidelines regarding school bus eligibility for School District of Onalaska residents:

1. Children attending Eagle Bluff Elementary may be eligible to ride the bus if they live within the Eagle Bluff attendance boundary. Students who are attending Eagle Bluff via a Boundary Waiver will not be bused.

2. Children living within the district and attend a school 2 miles or greater from their home may be
eligible to ride the bus.

3. Children living within the district and in areas certified as hazardous by the District, Sheriffs Dept., and the Department of Public Instruction for walking to school may be eligible to ride the bus.

4. All Pre-K children living within the district are eligible to ride the bus.

IMPORTANT NOTICE!

Families using a BOUNDARY EXEMPTION must provide Transportation for their children.

Always feel free to contact the Transportation Department for questions regarding any eligibility issues!
